Manon on SPIL:
From the first
moment on (the freshman weekend), I have felt at home in this association. In
my opinion, the SPIL succeeds in finding a good balance between social
activities and political interesting appointments, also paying interest to the
academic background. Debates, parties, lectures and last but not least, the
study trips: SPIL has a lot to offer to her members. It
makes me very proud that I may, together with the other SPILicious directors,
manage this beautiful association.
Manon about political science:
It sounds nerdy, but I do enjoy attending lectures a lot (except for certain
methodological subjects). The lectures and workgroups of comparative analysis,
in which the comparison between political systems- and countries are
questioned, I did enjoy most. From Plato to Rutte I, almost all aspects of politics
get addressed. Additionally, the beautiful thing about Leiden
is that it is located in the lion’s den – straight from a lecture, you catch
the train to the Hague
for an interesting, SPIL-organized activity with a prominent politician.
Manon on politics:
What interests me most about politics is the ‘power game’: how is it possible
that politician A became so powerful? Why is country B so influential? What is power? Politics
is always in motion and ‘current’; this combination of power and newsworthiness
has always interested me.
Manon in 10 years:
The eternal student, the Career Tiger or a B&B in France; I
exclude nothing and everything is still possible. Let’s first enjoy this
SPILicious year!
