The SPIL partakes in groupings at multiple levels. Internationally, the SPIL is a member of the International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS); nationally the SPIL partakes in the Platform for Political Scientists (PvP) and locally the SPIL is part of the Platform for Study Associations (StOP).

International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS)
In 1996 a delegation of SPIL visited an association for political science students in Rome. Together, they decided to establish an overarching international body for associations for political science students. In the meantime over fifty associations from over forty countries have joined IAPSS. IAPSS’ policy is based on five pillars: network, intercultural exchange, academic development, professional career and active citizenship. The first two pillars are especially important to the SPIL.

Platform for Political Science Students (PvP)
In the PvP are seated, besides the SPIL, EOS (association for the Faculty of Social Sciences of the VU University Amsterdam), Machiavelli (association for political science students of the University of Amsterdam), ismus (association for political science students of Nijmegen University) and the NKWP (the Dutch Association for Political Science). The platform’s objective is the exchange of experiences and the realization of nationwide activities, such as the PiP Congress.

Platform for Study Associations (StOP)
The StOP is an overarching body for study associations within Leiden. The StOP represents the interests of these associations at the university level.
